Wiring Drewtronics S5000LED probe in ESS/MB3
« on: April 29, 2023, 06:15:20 AM »
Hello,
I'm struggling getting a Drewtronics s5000LED probe working on a ESS/MB3.  I can get the probe to trigger in Mach4 but the probe LED does not illuminate, or I can get the probe LED to illuminate, but not trigger in Mach4.  When I get the probe to trigger in Mach4, I think I have the probe wired in backwards so the LED is essentially out of the circuit.

I think I am in need of a pull up resistor to help get Mach to trigger as well as light up the LED, but I don't know how to wire one into the MB3 inputs.

Any help would be appreciated.

Lynn

Yes, It's possible to use an additional resister.

I couldn't find the probe schematic from seller website.
Can you provide it?

I have a JPG of the probe schematic, but can't figure out how to post the image or file   :( ...

Yes you need a pull up resistor connect between common and X input as shown in the picture.

The value is around 2-3k ohm with high wattage because it needs to stand up to the heat.

If you need a bright light on probe LED, you need to by pass the internal 10k resistor or put a copper wire across 10k resistor. In this case the value of pull up resistor becomes 3-5k ohms.

Thanks Weerasak,

The resistors are on order and I will give it a try!

Weerasak,

I used a 2.5k ohm resistor and it worked perfectly.  Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
